New meal plan policy
leaves food for thought
A recently adopted university policy wil! soon require
some USC' freshmen to buy at least a 10-meal
plan from Saga.
How terrific for Sa?a. What a rio-off for these
I freshmen. 1

According to Richard Wert/., Business Affairs vice
president, one of the reasons the policy was adopted
was to foster more of a community spirit within the

Bin why should Saga determine the social lives of
hundreds?

I his idea is even more ludicrous when one considers
that freshmen will have to pay for the
privilege.
It is also interesting to consider the staggering
amount of money the food service will reap in this

may not want or need.
Additionally, Saga rips off students it serves
already. Those who carry meal plans arc allotted $2
for breakfast, S2.63 for lunch and $3.10 for dinner.
Go over these allotment : you pay out of your own

Sense of community spirit? Sure. While USC
freshmen are feeling community oriented, Saga is
laughing all the way to the bank.
It is apparent most continuing residents have
managed to get involved in their university and
develop social lives without the help of Saga. A large
part of the freshmen experience is having to actively
seekcorraraderie, not depending on others to provide
it for them.
Ai least one Saga employee has said a meal plan is
"a gold mine for students," but the only one getting
any gold is the food service.

I was born in Connecticut. Yes,
I'm a Yankee. I'll admit it; I was born
in the North. It's not as if I had a

I've lived in Florida for years, and I
still can't understand this rivalry between
North and South. People from
both areas seem to think one's better
than the other. I find it rather
interesting.
My family packed and moved to
Florida when I Was in junior high. It

I think it's very sad that the conflict
