Dawson USC students who arc con fused about career decisions can find help and a variety of other career-related services at the University Career Center. Located on the sixth floor of the Business Administration building, the Career Center meets students' diverse needs through four departments: Career Planning, Cooperative Education and Student Employment, Placement, and Alumni Career Planning. Students having trouble deciding their major and making other career choices can find help at the Career Planning office. Career Planning offers individual career counselling, computerized career resources, and ongoing workshops which aid students with such things as resume writng, interviewing, and preparing for a job search. More information can be obtained at 777-7280. THK COOPERATIVE EDUCATION and Student Employment office offers opportunities for career related work experience and summer jobs. According to director Maxine Sumpter, the department gives students chances to test out their prospective careers through preliminary employment experiences. Part-time employment in the Columbia area, summer employment all over the country, and internships are three of the programs offered by the department. Two types of co-op plans arc available: the parallel plan, which offers part-time work concurrent with on-campus study, and the alternating plan, which oilers alternating semesters of lull time work and full-time study. Qualified students can sign up for intcr|% views with a particular company on a firstcome, first-serve basis, or have their resumes sent to a variety of companies for prcscrcening. The companies then compile a list of the students they wish to interview and the students are notified in advance of the companies' arrival on campus. Attendance of placement orientation is i mandatory before an interview with on- jra campus recruiters can be arranged.
