Volleyball tea
to Georgia toi
By Andrew Miller
Playing on the road is difficult for any
team, but for USC's volleyball team it's
becoming a way of life.
The Lady Gamecocks will travel to
Georgia today; then they will pack their bags
and head north to face Clemson Tuesday.
It will be the third time this season the
team has played out of town.
"PLAYING AT home is always nice,"
head coach Bonnie Kenny said, "but we've

"We havn't had to travel that far, so being
on the road hasn't affected us too much."
Kenny said it won't be hard for the team to
get motivated for these two games.
"The team always looks forward to these
two games," she said.

Duke, the only team to defeat USC this
season.
"Georgia is a strong team. They have
basically the same team they had last year,
and they beat us twice," Kenny said.
She said Georgia has a powerful front line
led by juniors Karen Kelly and Shelly Gross.
"They run a 5-1 system, she said, "and
that gives their net players a lot of opportunities
to score."
KENNY ALSO said freshman Lady
Bulldog setter Kim Wonta is a key to the
team.

"She does a very good job," she said.
"She controls their offense very well."
Clemson, 0-7 on the year, lost three games,
15-7, 15-3, 15-8, to the Ladv Gamecocks
earlier this season. However, kenny wasn't
pleased with the win.
"It wasn't a win to boast about," she said.
"1 think they realize they played poorly.
"I THINK they have it their heads how-to
play this time."
After the two-game road trip the Lady
Gamecocks return to Columbia Oct. 5 for a
two-game home stand against Metro opponents
Louisville and Cincinnati.
Kenny said Louisville will be a difficult
match, but she said she couldn't say about
Cincinnati.
"Louisville has a very strong team," Kenny
said. "They are a very powerful team."
THE CARDINALS are led by setter
Denise Dzik who is second in the league in
assists.
"She's a great setter," she said. "Dzik
controls almost 90 percent of the game for
them.
"She's like their No. 1 quarterback."
Cincinnati lost tour ot its six starters to
graduation.
KENNY SAID this is an important time in
the season for the Lady Gamecocks.
"We play a lot of matches in the month of
October," she said. "We have a couple of
home games so we should capitalize on the
opportunity to play at home."
