Out of five albums recently released
by MCA Records, only one exhibits
musical pleasantry and innovation.
The short soundtrack "Sixteen
Candles" offers a concise package of
five notable tracks.
"Geek Boogie," Ira Newborn and
tne ueeKs irous-innuencea title track
by the ever-popular Stray Cats, encapsule
the feeling of the high schoolthemed
film.
Fun chords and lyrics also continue
on Annie Golden's "Hang Up The
Phone," a rollicking Cvndi Lauper-like

despondent listener. "Gloria" by the
eerie Patti Smith is another gloomy
but intriguing Smith-penned song.
However, the best track is the
borrowed Thompson Twins' song, "If
You Were Here," which builds to a
glamorous crescendo of distorted
romance.
"Streets of Fire" was not only a
frighteningly bad film but its soundtrack
was also poor. Incurably bad
would best describe this moody album.
The Jim Steinman erouD Fire Inc.
delivers two melodramatic failures
that set the mood for an excessively
somber album.

Britain's Nik Kershaw bursts into
the international music scene with the
sad but optimistic, "Wouldn't It Be
Good." His "Human Racing" album
demonstrates a continued enjoyablitity.
"Dancing Girls" and the
second single, "I Won't Let The Sun Go
Down On Me," are equally good.
Kershaw wrote and arranged the
entire album, and he shows promise as
a successful solo artist.
