Waters played with the same band ? Pink Floyd, one of the

Today, Waters, the former hit group's chief songwriter and
producer, has gone solo and sees no chance of Pink Floyd
reuniting.
"Bands only function as long as the people within them are
happy with the roles they are actually performing, and the
people in Pink Flovd ceased to be hannv with the roles thev
were performing," Waters said in a recent telephone interview
? the first he's granted in several years ?from his rehearsal
studio in London.
Waters, whose theatrical writing and productions of Pink
Floyd's "Animals" and "The Wall" have been among the
most ambitious and expensive ever in rock music, is about to

IMPRESSIVE SPECIAL effects highlight the compelling
script by Harve Bennett but it is Leonard Nimoy's perception
and subtle techniques that envelope "Star Trek III." The film
easily surpasses its two predecessors in entertainment and
realism. Nimoy, who knows the inner workings of the
characters and proper mood, was the logical choice.
The acting is not superb, but seeing the familiar faces more
than makes up for this shortcoming. The wave of pure
nostalgia that one gets from this movie is extremely satisfying.

of his new LP, "The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking," it
opens June 16 at Stockholm's Ice Stadium.
His new band, with Eric Clapton on guitar, ,will play nine
other European dates, and three in the United States in midJuly
at the Meadowlands complex in northern New Jersey.
Tickets for the first two U.S. shows sold out within hours
and Waters is trying to arrange other stops in Philadelphia,
Detroit, Chicago and Montreal.

to be as elaborate as any of the earlier Pink Floyd shows. It
will feature a huge stage backed by a full screen on which
scenes from the story will be projected.
"Pros and Cons," Waters said, "all takes place in a
bedroom. There's a man and his wife there and it's about the
man's dream over a period of 40 minutes."
Christopher Lloyd is superb as the Klingon warrior Bruge,
and Nimoy's brief appearance is true excitement.
The search for Spock works because emotions are
developed, rather than space-age glamour or tiresome special
effects. The characters are aged and the Enterprise falling
apart, but "Star Trek III" is a classic.
Despite relatively flat acting, "Star Trek III" is a wonderful
journey through the imagination.
