But the Barto, Pa., native, who alternates
catching and designated hitting, found
himself in left field Monday afternoon at

three innings of play. Georgia Tech,
however, crushed Carolina 10-3.
"I PLAYED some outfield in the Cape
Cod League during the summer," Fox said.
"I didn't play it that well, though."
"But coach (June) Raines knew I had
some experience in the outfield, and I was

In addition to Fox's two hits, Scott Mackie
added three singles to lead the Gamecocks'
11-hit performance.
"(Graduate assistant coach) Rick Sofield
worked with me some in the cage before the
game," Fox said. "He said I was pulling my
front shoulder out. He got me working on
that to make me swing through the ball."
GEORGIA TECH, ranked 16th by Collegiate
Baseball magazine, rattled two pitchers
for 17 hits.
Larry Price took the loss, falling to 3-3.
Price allowed four runs, eight hits and two
base on balls through three innings.
Glenn Jenkins came in relief and pitched
the rest of the game. The St. Petersburg,
Fla., native shut the door for the Yellow
Jackets until the ninth inning.
Coach Jim Morris' squad scored five runs
in the final inning. Raines elected not to use
another reliever and put a strain on his bull
pen.
"GLENN JUST couldn't quite pull us
through," Raines said. "But you can't let a
team get 17 hits and still expect to win."
Despite th^loss, Raines said his 10ih-iaicu
team will battle back.
"We're still not swinging the bats like we
can," he said. "Chris Boyle is in a slump,
and Greg Morhardt has been tapering off.

Omega forward Craig Howard said the
key to the win over the Spartans was their
depth and their organization.
"They (Spartans) were just a bunch of
street players," he said. "We had a good
coach who kept us organized in the end and
that was the real key to the win.
"We got off to a good start and that
helped us out too."
HOWARD SAID the backcourt combination
of Porter and Clarence Howard
were big factors in the team's success
throughout the season.
Roost Connection defeated Pweese 68-47
to take the Division B basketball
championship.
Gamecock running back Kent Hagood,
and offensive lineman Rusty Russell led the
Roost Connection with 18 points each.
