When USC's men's basketball team faces
Georgia Tech tomorrow in Atlanta, it will be
the second time in as many games that
Carolina will have faced a ranked team.
The Gamecocks lost to 72-61 to Memphis
State in Memphis, Tenn., Monday. The
Tigers are ranked eighth by the Associated
Press. The loss drops Carolina to 10-11
overall, and 3-6 in the Metropolitan Collegiate
Athcltic Conference.
Assistant basketball coach Dave Blank
said Georgia Tech will differ greatly from the
team that USC beat 61-53 in Columbia last

e. Total fouls- Mem Memphis State's Cathy William:
second too 2
provement in the team over the past year,"
Blank said. "He's a revamped player from
last year and is a key inside player for them."
Salley averages 12 points and eight rebounds
a game. He has 58 blocked shots and
shoots 58 percent from the floor.
"When he gets inside he's almost unstoppable,"
Blank said. "What we're coine to do
is deny him the ball when he goes inside."
14 He (Salley) and Yvon Joseph (Yellow
Jacket center) give them two players 6-11,
and that helps their outside shooters."
OUTSIDE SHOOTERS at Georgia Tech
include sophomore guard Mark Price.
Price averages 16 points a game, and also
leads the team in assists with 91. Price shoots
52 percent from the floor and almost 80 percent
from the line.
"His shot selection has become much better
over the year," Blank said. "He's looking
to pass more this year, and without all the
defenses keying on him he's getting better
shots."
Blank also said the addition of freshman
guard/forward Bruce Dalrymple has added
to the squad's success this season.
I
"IF WE put a guard on him, he'll post
them up," he said. "And if we put a forward
on him, he'll go outside.
"He has this knack for stealing rebounds
from players. He's a garbage man. We are
going to be very aware of him when he's on
the court."
Dalrymple averages 14 points and seven rebounds
a game.
Blank said one weakness in the Yellow
Jackets is that Salley and Joseph have a
tendency to get into foul trouble.
"WE'RE GOING to take inside against
them," he said. "If we get the ball into Jimmy
(Foster) or Mike (Brittain), we want them
to give their big men head fakes, and get
them into foul trouble."
"That's what really hurt us against Memphis.
We didn't go inside with any
authority."
Blank said one of the biggest improvements
from last vear's Tech team k the
players' confidence.
"The whole team attitude is much better
this season than last," he said. "What they
do best is go inside, and then kick it back out
to Price and let him shoot, and we know
what kind of shooter Mark Price is."
