Vandcrbilt guard Phil Cox said the
Commodores' 69-63 basketball victory
over USC Monday night was "the confidence
builder" Vandy needed.

back ripping and playing well," said
Vandy coach C.M. Newton, whose
Commodores also got an 18-point effort
from forward Jeff Turner.
USC head coach Bill Foster said he
was disappointed in his Gamecocks'
effort against a pressing Vanderbilt
defense.
"Our people were hiding from the
basketball," Foster said. "We didn't
show good poise against their pressure
defense. We hung tough and fought
back, but they played well and made
the free throws. We seem to have an
inability to score baskets."
