Four (JSC football players were drafted
recently by the Washington Federals of the '
United Siaies Football League, but they are
waiting for a possible offer from a National 1
Fdotball League team.
' Linebacker J.D. Fuller and tight end ^
Dominique Blasingame have said they'll wait J
until both leagues have offered, while offen- '
sive tackle Rusty Russell said he'll give the
USFL no consideration.
Defensive tackle Rickey Hagood could not
be reached for comment. '
THE FEDERALS, like other USFL teams, i
have territorial draft rights over particular :
schools. The Federals draft players from i
Maryland, Richmond, Virginia and Clemsort i
as well as USC. j
"They're not one of the richer franchises
in the USFL," Russell said. "I'm not going
to the USFL because there isn't enough
monev. not the monev I think I'm worth."
"I didn't know it, but Craig Kelly j
(Russell's agent) told me I was rated the No. {
5 to 8 tackle in the nation. I was real suprised j
to be rated that high as a lineman," he said.
Russell said the Federals offered him
$35,000 a year with a $15,000 signing bonus, j
but an NFL team is offering $75,000 a year j
with a $60,000 signing bonus. ^

'If it's (the USFL offer) good I'll go with it.
[f not, I'll wait."
Blasingame said he's in a position similar
:o Fuller.
"I'm stuck in between places right now,"
Blasingame said. "In a way I want to wait,
but it depends on the negotiations. It will be
between me and my agent to work out."
BLASINGAME SAID his respect for the
USFL has increased over the past year
because of recent player signings.
"Last year was just the beginning, and
now the league's more stable," Blasingame
said. "In the last two years they've gotten
[wo rteismaii iropny winners, ?>u nicy ic Malting
pretty good. They're getting quality
players."
Fuller also said the league is better than
before.
"It's a good league," Fuller said. "But I
was advised to go to this camp. I've been told
hat I'm going to be drafted by the NFL, but
hat's all speculation. Right now, I think it's
n my best interest to go to the camp."
RUSSELL SAID he's been told he'll be
kicked in the third or fourth round of the
MFL draft, and he'll be pleased regardless of
vhich team picks him.
"I don't care where I go," Russell said.
"Even if it's cold where the team is, I know
the green will keep me warm."
