COLUMBIA, (AP) ? Sen. Ernest
Hollings, D-S.C., has defended his
stance against tuition tax credits, saying
he is not against private schools
and colleges.
The Democratic presidential
hopeful's comments came after a
newspaper published by the
Charleston Roman Catholic diocese
sharply criticized Hollings' role in the
defeat of the tuition tax credit bill.
Hollings said the article in The
Catholic Banner, which called the
presidential candidate "almost
fanatical" in his opposition to the bill,
is an emotional attack not based on
reason.
"What I am opposed to is the use of
public funds to support private
schools," Hollings added. "The

arc adults," said Dr. Curtiss
Daughtry, one of Florence's orthodontists.
It's a fairly new trend, but more
adults are now having orthodontic
treatment than ever."
Nationally, about 20 percent of all
orthodontic patients are adults and the
percentage is growing.
Why, all of a sudden, are adults opting
for the "tinsel mouth look" that
was formerly the bailiwick of the high
school set? The reasons are almost as
varied as the number of adults having
teeth problems.
First, grown people are becoming
aware that they ? like their teen-age
sons and daughters ? can be helped by
orthodontic treatment.

strides have been made in the

achieved with adults.
And since more adults are having
crooked teeth straightened and malocclusions

embarrassment that went right along
with the wires is disappearing.

adults were more sensitive.

more easily, than children could."
