Pep rally to kii

pep rally, will begin at 8 p.m. Oct. 27 at
Williams-Brice Stadium.
It will feature skits by Greek fraternities
and sororities and will be led by Bob Fulton,
the "voice of the Gamecocks." Head football
coach Joe Morrison will introduce his
senior players and help the Carolina Band,
the Coquettes and the cheerleaders rev up the
crowd.

drawing will be held to determine the
winners.
The Homecoming court, including the
1982 Homecoming Queen, Vicki Harrell, will
be present. Intramural team winners of the
punt, pass and kick competition will be
announced.

university's Sigma chapter of Pi Kappa Phi
fraternity. It is one of the nation's largest
university pep rallies, according to Jerry Inglima,
a spokesman for the fraternity.
A fireworks display will end the 13th annual
event, which should be over by 11 p.m.
Homecoming activities will continue on
Oct. 28 with a concert, featuring the Tubes at
18 p.m. at the Township Auditorium. The
concert is $3 for students with USC identification
and $6 for guests.
The Homecoming parade will begin at 3
p.m. Oct. 29, traveling down Main and Gervais
streets to Sumter Street. The football
game will begin at 8 p.m. at Williams-Brice
Stadium and will be televised on WTBS, the
Atlanta cable channel.

CELLIST ROBERT Jesselson, assistant
professor in the Department of Music, will
give a faculty recital at 8 p.m. Tuesday in
Gambrell Hall auditorium.
On the program will be "Suit No. 3 in C
for solo cello" by J.S. Bach, one of the cor;
nerstones of the cello repetoire, and the
Rachmanioff cello sonata, which is rarely
performed because of its extremely difficult
piano part, Jesselson said. Charles Fugo of
ji the music department will accompany him on
" the piano.

Featured on the program will be three
selections by Chinese composers, which have
only been played one other time in the United
States. Jesselson brought these works back
from his recent trip to China through the
USC-Shanxi exchange program.

THE 1983 RECIPIENT of the Harold
Miller music scholarship at USC is an
18-year-old native of Taiwan who came to
the United States last year to live with her
Columbia relatives and study music.
Jui-Wen Chen decided to study at the
university under Raymond Dudley, artist-inresidence
at USC. She was awarded the
$600-a-year, renewable, endowed Miller
scholarship on the basis of her playing ability,
says William Moody, chairman of the

Chen has been studying piano for almost
14 years. She is a freshman majoring in
music.

A SLIDE lecture on clay and a throwing
demonstration will be part of a workshop
sponsored Oct. 27 by the Clay Arts Society
of USC.
Mike Vatalero, assistant professor of art
and head of the ceramics program at Clemson
University will be featured. He is the
recipient of a 1983-84 South Carolina Arts
Commission grant to continue his work.
The workshop will be held in three parts,
wnn a 4 p.m. reception lor the artist as the
finale. All events, which will be free to the
public, will take place in Room 104 ol
Booker T. Washington.

work and that of other clay artists at 8 a.m.
