Two men atte By David Hill Two men tried unsuccessfully to steal a money box at an All-Niter concert early Saturday morning, but campus police arrested one after a chase, according to police rpnnrts According to police, a man entered the Russell House at the Greene Street foyer at about 2 a.m. He then sneaked behind a table on which was a money box containing ticket receipts from a concert in the ballroom. Attendants had their backs toward him. The man then grabbed the money box and headed back toward the foyer entrance, but struck the column and dropped the box. He and his accomplice then fled onto Greene Street without the box. POLICE AND others chased them down Bull Street to the University Terrace Apartments playground. One man then ran in the direction of Marion Street. Police found him trying to hide in shrubbery at the apartments. After he was identified by witnesses, the man was arrested and taken to Columbia Police headquarters. The other man was not apprehended. The money box, which contained less than $200, was recovered. The delivery person completed the delivery and left the scene. Other incidents on the University Police blotter: Sept. 18 Someone tried to enter a third-floor room in Woodrow dorm, damaging the room's door. The incident occured about 2 a.m. An alarm was activated on the second floor of the Wade Hampton Hotel. Sept. 17 An AM-FM radio-cassette player was stolen from a car parked at a metered lot at Pendleton and Barnwell streets. There were no signs of forced entry. In the Wade Hampton Hotel lobby, $30 was stolen from the postage stamp machine. Four wheel hub covers were removed from a car parked at Columbia Hall.
