have been named Atlantic Coast Conference football defensive
players of the week, the league announced yesterday .
The weekly selections are made by a special committee of
the Atlantic Coast Conference Sportswriters Association.
Johnson took defensive honors for the second consecutive
week. The 6-4, 230-pound senior from Morehead City, N.C.,
had four solo tackles and four assists Saturday as N.C. State
buried the Citadel, 45-0.

quarterback for a 13-yard loss, intercepted a pass and
blocked three others.
Lyles, a 6-3, 215-pound junior from Washington, D.C.,
picked off a pass in the end zone with the score tied in

Smith, a 6-0, 180-pound senior from Fayetevilie, tied a
North Carolina record with three touchdown pass receptions
in the Tar Heels' 48-17 victory over Miami of Ohio.
Mack, a 6-1, 200-pound senior from Kmgs Mountain, rushed
for 91 yards on 15 carries in the Tigers' 16-16 tie with 14thranked
