By Tony Floyd
With the loss of last year's number one
seed and a head tennis coach, some don't
believe that USC women's tennis team will be
as strong as in previous years.
But assistant athletic director Bobby
Foster has confidence in new head coach
Arlos Elkins. "He has worked with several
of our outstanding players in the past, and
we feel he will continued the winning tradition
established by coach Jeff Kefalos and
our players over the last several years."
Elkins shares Foster's optimism for this
season. "We had some losses from last year's

we might have a chance to be just as strong as
in the past."
One reason for Elkins' optimism is the
signing of freshman Christina Seiffert of
Chicago. "We are expecting good things
from her," Elkins said. Joining Seiffert on
the women's roster are Johnna Chafin, Jill
Hausler, Katie Hargarten, Liz Holland,
Migan Armstrong, Laurie Egerton and
Kathy Bootle.
Elkins, 34, has been the head professional

Camden the nation's steeplechasing capital,
has been donated to South Carolina by
heiress, noted philanthropist and horse enthusiast
Marion DuPont Scott.
Scott died last week in Virginia at age 89.
The Springdale Course is the site of the
Carolina Cup, held in November.
Gov. Dick Riley said the state is "indeed
grateful for the generous gift by Mrs. Scott.
It is evidence of her love for South Carolina
and of thoroughbred racing."
Her gift was one of the largest ever given
by an individual to the state.

The property totals about 660 acres and is
