An eight-run outburst in the sixth inning
brought a smile to Clemson Baseball Coach
Bill Wilhelm's face Saturday after the Tigers
downed Ubt 8-1.
| Clemson's victory avenged an 8-3 loss to
j the Gamecocks in Clemson April 26.
The sixth inning rally was more than
wenough for the Tigers who, after a 4-3 loss
yesterday to USC, finish the season at
30-20-1.
"I doubt that we're going anywhere," said
the 26-year veteran coach, "but 30 wins
i sounas Detter tnan zy.
"We had problems, and we haven't won
down here (at USC) in a while," Whilhelm
added.
After Clemson's loss to USC last week,
Wilhelm said. "I dread coins down there
? (USC). The place is just a circus.... The fans
are vicious. They get right behind our dugout
and harass the hell out of our players."
Following Saturday's contest in Columbia,
^kwilhelm was somewhat less vocal.
"They (the USC fans) were milder than
MHsual. They yelled at us constantly, but I con
I^ratulate those who have withdrawn and
have decided to just be baseball fans,"
Wilhelm said.
Wilhelm said the eight-run rally was the

Clemson's 10-1 loss to North Carolina in
the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament
championship probably killed any postseason
tournament hopes for Clemson.
USC travels to Miami, after a home game
against Furman, for a three-game series with
the defending national champion Hurricanes
May 13-15. Two games at Mercer will complete
the season.
"We will begin recruiting on Monday and
concentrate on next season," Wilhelm said.
