Students in need of financial aid for
the fall semester should apply now for
the thousands of scholarships being
offered by private foundations, trade
and civic groups and other sources. f
Scholarships are available from !
tax-exempt foundations required by ]

financial aid available each year in 1
order to maintain their tax-exempt 1
status. There are more than 25,000
scholarships available, according to (
the director of the Scholarship Bank. f
The Scholarship Bank matches
students with aid and sends the
student a print-out of the private
financial aid sources that appear to be
most promising for that student. Each N
student may receive up to 50 sources j
of aid. <

The finalists were selected from [
nearly 300 candidates representing *
high schools in the state. J
Carolina Scholars Awards are
presented annually to about 15 outstanding
S.C. high school graduates. J
The award recognizes scholarship *
and character, as well as leadership J
in school and community. t
The $8,000 scholarship pays for four J
years of undergraduate, graduate or 1 t
professional studies at USC for each J
recipient. The winners of the 1983
Carolina Scholars Awards will be /
announced in the spring. J
