The minimal musical accompaniment of
piano, percussion and bass is effective and
voices are generally strong, with choral
numbers rendered especially well. There
are a dozen musical numbers, and most are
reprised at least once. Choreography is
simple.
The musical's success hinges completely
on its visual appeal and melodic sweetness;
there is no call for studied acting here and
the performers don't presume to present it.

from the matinee crowd as he danced

Christmas Present and Christmas Yet-toCome,
Randall Browning is a tremendous
ham. He stalks and swoops, unabashedly
upstaging everyone with his wild, Marty
Feldman-like eyes and tall, angular form.

Dreiman plays Herb, Elizabeth O'Grady
portrays Steffy and Kathleen Warnock is
Libby. Each get all the laughs the script
gives them, but primarily because the script
does give them the comedy; the lines here
are funny without too much regard to how
they are delivered.
Warnock perseveres despite herself. A
newcomer to the stage, she has few
character subtleties. However, her
willingness to play up her tall stature and
open, ingenuous face make her hard to
dislike too much.

Pleasant vocal work is turned in on "An

sweetheart Belle, do an admirable job with
the "Golden Dreams" duet.

loosey-goosey. To Dreiman's credit, at least
he doesn't fall into the trap of trying to

Director Emmalee Elizabeth Robbins and
her company have only scratched the

shallowness leaves little else.
