Scott, a four-year letterman from 1977 to 1980, said there
was one big adjustment moving from college ball to the
professional ranks.
441 think you have to realize that you are no longer
playing just a game, but this is your business, your
livelihood and your job. And if you do not perform, they
will get someone who can.
"THAT IS WHY there are only 1,500 players, and they
are all professionals," Scott said.
The 23-year-old said, "Carolina was very good to me."
"I did earn my degree here in health education, and -I
am working on my master's. The people here are nice,
and it is a great school.
"I think it is the dream of every athlete to become a pro
athlete, and it is a dream-come-true for me," Scott said.
"My father coached football for 18 years and played tight
end for Claflin College. He was a small man, and people
still tell me that I wasn't half as good as he was, so I guess
I came from a pretty good stock."
SCOTT SAID he does believe athletic ability to some
Hpurpp rune in thr? familw
"Because my father coached, I was around the game
most of my life," he said. "While other kids were going to
camps to learn the fundamentals, I was learning it at the
dinner table.
"I played all sports. I played football and basketball,
and baseball for one year, tennis for one year. I was doing
something year round, and the pro ranks look at this.
"They don't want someone too specific," he said. "A lot
of colleges are looking at good athletes who are versatile
and change. They don't want someone who is just good in
one specific area."
"I want to get a little better and better, game by game,
and practice by practice," Scott said. "That's the way to
the Super Bowl."
