BJ: The ideas and energy. I don't know about the same
music. We're not really the same music people. We (the
band) have the same ideas and attitudes and energy.
SB: Another fact is we don't listen to just one style of music.
Say a punk band would just listen to punk music. We listen to
everything, and it influences us.

BJ: Right, jazz and even classical.
G: How did you get involved with Miles Copeland (manager
of Lords of the New Church and The Police, head of I.R.S.
Records)?
BJ: I met Miles about three years ago. He started to manage
me when I was doing a solo thing. We carried on for a while.
Then Miles saw Stiv perform, and I'd been telling him about
Stiv for three years. Miles doesn't listen to nothing unless he
sees them perform himself. When he came back from

Stiv singing. He asked about us working together, stayed
with it, and here we are.
G: If you hadn't hooked up with Copeland, do you think you
would be as widely known as you are now?
BJ: Who can tell?
G: Because I.R.S. has gotten a lot of bands well known.
BJ: Yeah, they're doing a good job. If it wasn't for them,

SB: We might not be as well known. Maybe we would.
BJ: Who can say. You can't speculate about something like
that.
G: Chris was telling us about Miles' strategy to Di your
first album. Could you fill us in on it?
BJ: Don't listen to him. He knows absolutely nothing.
DT: He's just some preppie we picked up hitchhikin' Ground
UCLA.
G: Well, he spelled almost all your names right.
NT: About the strategy, we put just our last names on the
album cover. We didn't want people saying "Oh, a Dead Boy,
a Sham 69 or the Damned. We wanted to be a new group and
not play any old numbers.
SB: The trouble is poop punk supergroup. We don't want to go
on our past history. We want the music to stand for itself. If

G: Who writes the music? pj
BJ: Stiv and I do. Stiv writes most of the lyrics and I write R
most of the music. te
G: Stiv, how did you like working in Polyester (John Waters' I
movie showing at Russell House tonight and tomorrow) ? pE
SB: It was alot of fun. John Waters is great to work with. We H
just saw Divine's stage show while we were in New Orleans. ^

G: Any feedback in Columbia? Is
SB: Not much. We had a burning cross outside our hotel room [|
last night but that was it. p
G: The KKK is just outside Columbia. [j|
SB: Great. Maybe we can play a concert for them. All four of r=

G: What do you think about playing in Columbia? l!=
BJ: This is my first visit to Columbia. Its a new area for me. H
It's great, I look at it as a challenge. [|
SB: We've been here one night, and it's the nicest week we've [ji

NT: We feel we're the first big punk rock to play Columbia, p
and we like bringing our music here. m
