"Girls, Girls, Girls" bore no
relation to the Elvis Presley song and
is the only live number included on the
Lords' debut LP.
"Livin' on Livin"' was dedicated to
Jim Morrison and Cheetah Chrome,
former lead guitarist with the Dead
Boys.
"Eat Your Heart Out" was for all
the girls with rich daddies. Turner
pounded the tom-toms to "You think
you put the x in sex, ah honey, you're
so mean." This rousing tune recalled
the sexiest Dead Boys cuts like
"Caught With The Meat In Your
Mouth."
Bator calmed down from his
rampage on the microphone stand to
ask "Who was the best band in New
York in 1973?" before kicking into
"Li'l Boys Play With Dolls." This
tribute to the New York Dolls, based
on the Dolls' "Bad Girl" and a collage
of Dolls' songs and album titles, is a

Bator baited the Roman Catholic 1
percentage of the audience as a i
prelude to "Holy War," a controversial
song concerning papal
political intrigue. This highlight of the
alhnnri was a pot-boiler live as Bator
sang, "Pope John Paul II ? was
poisoned behind Vatican doors."

The Lords left the stage, much to
he displeasure of the crowd, quickly

'Bohemian hideout, a smugglers inn"
suitable as a refuge for a lord and
lamed after a London street.

obliged with another rendition of
'New Church," this time more frentic
toan the first because the band's
adrenaline was up.
The Lords played the best music I
have ever heard in Strider's, had no
apparent sound problems and kept the

Many bands cannot transfer their
studio talents to the stage, but the
Lords of the New Church drew on
their collective experience for rawsounding
yet intelligent songs that
stun both live and on wax.
