Bookstore fights By Don Weatherbee Remodeling of University Bookstore's softwares section is under way to eliminate termite infestation and to repair termite damage in that area of the store, according to USC maintenance and bookstore spokesmen. USC Physical Plant Services began at the end of June to tear down the raised portion of the books tore, which carried T-shirts and other software items, to expose the termite colony that had damaged wooden supports and hardwood floor beneath the section. Work should be finished by the end of summer .school. When completely remodeled, the new softwares section will be flat instead of raised, Don Miles, director of University Bookstore, said. Although termite infestation has been a recurring problem in the bookstore "for several years," according to Administrative Services Manager Gerald Goings, treatment was always Dut off v? sis BltF v illl> fromf^BB^BB^ lil^ iilt Because of damage caused by termites, the 9 must be remodeled. tising gets re$ult$ S DAT )w Forming ANGE gg5BE0fflgp|gS proudly mmmm we^ ^ CalKJav^Eve^^Weelend^^^^l uUvClHl Moved to: I 4 19 Pendleton St. I 4. 4. Because of the store's construction?it was built on a hardwood floor laid over concrete?extermination of the insects would have to be attempted from above. Until this summer, there never was an "appropriate" time to tear down the softwares section to treat the termites that were eating away the wood below, Miles said. Since work began, the elevated section has been dismantled and the floor removed. Holes will soon be bored into the exposed concrete and insecticide pumped in to kill the termite colony.
