l)SC Wins Concrete Canoe Races
USC finished first and second in overall racing competition
recently out of a grid of 11 schools in the concrete canoe
races.
Each school's ASUE chapter entered two concrete canoes
for racing and design and contruction. USC finished second in
ucoign auu ^uutt uvuuii.
In the event held at Bell Camp, Carolina took first and
second places in the men's undergraduate sprint, but did not
place in the women's undergraduate.
Carolina came in first and third in the men's faculty, first
in the relay, and first and third in the salom.
Other schools competing in the races were North Carolina
State (third overall), VMI, Virginia Politec, VTI, UNCCharlotte
and Old Dominion.
According to Danny Rickabaugh, concrete canoes have
been around since the early 1700s. They stay afloat due to the
volume and are reinforced with chicken wire and hangers.
USC took first last year at the races at Old Dominion.
