The USC men's tennis team had little trouble in disposing 31
of the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech on a windy afternoon w
Saturday at the Sam Daniels Tennis Stadium. r.(
The 15th-ranked Gamecocks monopolized the Yellow
Jackets in the singles matches by a 6-1 margin and in the d
doubles by a 2-1 score en route to their 17th victory of the 01
season against four losses. h
Zoran Petkovic dropped the first set of his match, 3-6, but ' *!

walked over Chuck Hyder 6-2, 6-2. Trevor Raal, No. 3,
took Barry Cox in two sets, 6-2, 6-4. Gamecock captain Jose
Salibi Neto straight-setted Georgia Tech's No. 4, 6-2, 6-4.
USC's No. 5 netter Sterling Cooke lashed Chris Sylvester, 6-0,
6-2. In the only USC singles defeat, No. 6 Kevin Campbell fell
in three sets, 7-5,5-7,6-2 to John Nahorner.
Because of the time schedule of Georgia Tech, the doubles
matches were played in eight-game pro sets since the out/>Amn

In the No. 1 doubles match USC's Sterling Cooke and
Trevor Raal played in their first No. 1 match and victimized I
GT's Rubin Cruez and Chuck Hyder 8-5. Gamecock netters '
Greg Macko and Wink Coleman were defeated by Yellow
Jackets Barry Cox and Darryl Olsen, 8-5. And Moe Kruger _
and Chip Conk edged Chris Sylvester and Robert Allen in the
No. 3 doubles.
The Gamecocks will be facing som^very stiff competition
in their upcoming matches. North Carolina will be in
Columbia Wednesday to take on USC, followed by N.C. State
on Thursday, Wake Forest on Saturday, and on Monday the
Gamecocks will be tested by the second-ranked team in the
