Junior guard Becky Parker finally started the Lady |
uramecocKs roiling again witmn outside jumper at the 11:16
mark that opened up a 17 point, 52-35 lead. From there senior I
center Shelia Foster went on a scoring spree pumping in 10 of
USC's next 12 points to give the Lady Gamecocks a 21 point I
advantage and put the icing on the game. s^
During the first period the USC Ladies thwarted Notre
Dame's efforts to slow the pace of the game down and trying
to break USC's rhythm by attacking Notre Dame agressively M
on offense and defense. I "I
think it was Notre Dame's game plan to play a ball B
control type of offense/' Kelly elaborated.

come within 2 points at 13-11 after being down 13-7. ||
"We made some adjustments on the weak side to shut down I
their outside scoring," said Kelly. m
After closing down Notre Dame offensively USC resumed p

points. Junior guard Sharon Rivers became USC's all-time
assist leader by tossing a pass to Evelyn Johnson who tallied
the fifth bucket of unanswered series to give Rivers the assist
and start the record.
Leading the Lady Gamecocks in first half scoring was I
three-time Ail-American Shelia Foster. Foster amassed a |
total of 33 points and 12 rebounds for the day.
"I really wanted to win bad for her,"Kelly stated.

off as just another milestone of the day by the fans. But the I
76-54 defeat plated a very decisive roll in the mind of Terry i
Kelly.
"I felt we needed the victory for the tournament," Kelly \
said. Boasting a 20 win season the Lady Gamecocks are all I
but assured a berth in the NCAA playoffs. But in order to r
secure a seed and the home court advantage for the tourney,
they must continue winning against a schedule that pits
against the likes of third-ranked Old Dominion and seventhranked
N.C. State.
