Instead of watching the Saturday morning cartoons like
many children their age, a group of seven-to 12-years-old arc
busy painting, drawing, and learning ceramics in a Saturday
morning art class at USC.
They are taught art appreciation, techniques, and
criticism, not just doodling and finger painting.

assistant professor of art, is supervising the program. According
to Dunn, "Nine out of 10 elementary students do nol
receive art education in any form, nationwide." Dunn said
the arts have been increasing in popularity over the past
several years. He believes this program will help children by
educating them in different aspects of the arts.
Art education majors from USC will instruct the students

Each instructor selects a theme for his class and presents
the children with an art problem they must solve by creating
an art project.
The Drojzram has 50 children in three ace cmiins: two
classes of seven-and eight-year-olds, two classes of nine-and
10-year-olds, and one class of 11-and 12-year-olds. The classes
meet every Saturday morning from 9 to 11 a.m. at Sloan
College.
At the completion of the last class on Dec. 5, a reception for
the students will be held in the Huntington Gallery, where the
students will display their work for their parents and the
public.
"Enrollment for the program is steadily increasing every
semester," Dunn said. He added that he would like to see the
program develop until there are 100 students enrolled in
every class.
The classes are part of USC's Outreach program, designed
