Bates House residents and Residential Life Services officialsimet
Monday night to attempt to end a semester-long
controversy over resident hall parties.
The Outcome of that meetintz mav affect all onmrmc
residents concerning alcohol policy and enforcement.
At the meeting,. Cynthia Forrest, director of Resident
Student Development and Special Services, outlined
regulations and procedures for campus parties to 4'clear up
the rumors" among the residents.
"WE HAVE designated a policy than manages risks,"
I Forrest said, "and all other residence halls must follow the
same procedures.'' |
According to Forrest, alcohol use was illegal on campus
until 1968. "After that, it was allowed in the privacy of your
own living quarters," she said.
Private living quarters are defined as "the confines of your
own room" and excludes dorm lobbies, studv rooms, com
munity baths and halls. Therein lies the question of whether ~
it is legal to have a party that "spills out" into the halls or
other "non-private" areas.
