Gooding said the group's main objection to the neutron
bomb was that it places the value of property over the value
of human life.
PAM HUTSON, president of Grow, said the caravan is not
just a group of young people but consists of people from all
walks of life and of all ages. A man calling himself Paul
Revere II at 78 is the oldest member of the caravan.
The Miami caravan now has 15 cars, but Gooding expects
many more to join before it reaches New York. The midwest

expect the caravans to have a huge impact, but their main
goal is to "let tnern (Washington) know that someone wants
to end his nuclear madness."
While at (JSC the group sponsored a concert in the
Russell House Ball Room, where USC Professor Dr. Peter
Sederberg gave a speech on disarmament. "The First
Annual Neutron?Blast" featured the music of the Rob Crosby
Group and the Corbett-Urquia Band. Members of the
Palmetto Alliance talked to students on the Russell House
patio, urging them to speak out against nuclear power.
Later that evening the "torch of friendship" was lit. The
torch is a replica of a larger one in Miami, symbolizing the
union of all nations for peace. After the caravan leaves
Columbia, it will continue to New York, stopping at other
universities along the way to gather support.
