Meat. A'Dea By DOROTHY GRAY Staff Writer After four years, Meatloaf is finally back; unfortunately their much anticipated second album leaves much to be desired. The new album, entitled Dead Ringer, is almost too similar to their 1977 Bat Out of Hell album. Since the two are so alike, one can't help but continually compare the two and Dead Ringer just ;> doesn't quite match up. Once again, the songs on Dead Ringer are all written by Jim Steinman, and all vocals are done by Meatloaf. However, the last album was produced by Todd Run dgren. The new album is produced by Meatloaf ? himself. The best cut on the LP is the title track, "Dead Ringer for Love." This soncr is ; comparable to Meatloaf's 1977 smash hit, "Paradise by The Dashboard Light." It opens with a prelude called "Nocturnal Pleasure" * where Meatloaf introduces '? the concept of the song in a I Discount Car Special Wheel Alignmei $11.80 Itfgine Tune-Uf M4.65 ? f Wheel Disc-D _ n _it &f3Ke neune 158.65 B.t. Suddenly it bursts into "Dead Ringer for Love." "Dead Ringer for Love" is full of energy and is a fast, upbeat rock 4n' roll type sons. It has the catchv an peal of songs popular back in the 1950s. "Dead Ringer for Love" is set up in the same way "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" was: a guy and girl sing back and forth to each other. In this song, the conflict presented is a common one ? the guy is coming on to the girl and the girl gives him a hard time: Boy: "You got the kind of legs that do more than walk. Girl: I don't have to listen to your whimpering talk. Boy: Listen, you got the kind of eyes that do more than see. Girl: You eotta lot of nprup coming on to me. Boy: You got the kind of lips that do more than drink. Girl: You got the kind of mind that does less than think." Two other songs that may be worth listening to for true Meatloaf fans are "Peel Out" and "I'm Gonna Love Her for Both of Us." The first, "Peel Out" is all about a car. It has an energizing start and a catchy chorus, although the verses are weak. The second, "I'm Gonna Love Her for Both of Us" opens with just a piano and bass. It catches your attention because it sounds like it's going to be different. However, once Meatloaf starts singing it becor?< *; boring. Dead Ringer generally lacks the originality and creativity exhibited on that first album. One would expect a more committed effort from a band that kept fans waiting for four long years. I RC MCW ST TV Tidbits (B By HARVEY MERRET and SUSAN CARTWRIGHT Staff Writers Movies and television frequently aid one another in the big business of making money. PBS' "Sneak Previews" (Thursdays at 9:00 on channel 35) is an innovative show which captivates a growing audience through the use of movies. Movie critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert give their opinions of currently playing movies including a "Dog of the Week." Now in its fourth season, this week's show includes film clips of "True Confessions," "Gallipoli," and "Rich and Famous."
