Weaver Say
From page 12
Weaver shrugged off his play and commented "I didn't
play to the best of my ability, just put it like that."

Weaver. Weaver, a Junior College All-American at tight end
while at Arizona Western, used his size and speed to rank
third in tackles on the team last year and his 37 tackles this
year puts him fourth on the squad.
"Weaver is a very good ballplayer," Belue said, "He's
intimidated a lot of centers in the past."
DEFENSIVE END Phil Ellis as another intimidating
factor for Carolina. Ellis had 13 , .ckles (tied for the game
high with Georgia linebacker To..imy Thurson and tops on
the Gamecocks), including two sacks for 11 yards in losses
and one fumble recovery. Ellis credited his coaches for his
fine defensive showing.
"A lot of that (performance) comes with me doing what the
coaches told me what to do," the 6-1, 220 pound junior said.
Ellis went on and said his play was a combination of Godgiven
talent and his coaches. "Mostly those coaches. They
tell us everything to do," he said.
The native of St. Petersburg. Fla.. felt his fumble recovery
and other breaks created by the defense in the first half were
part of the job: "That's just our job. That's what we're
supposed to do."
Ellis didn't think he and his defensive comrades played

was flagged for a dead ball facemark against Walker in the
third quarter, said. "I think we did our job, but I think we can
always do a little more than our job," Ellis said. "We don't
like to be scored on."
GEORGIA BROKE the game ooen late in the third Quarter.
a quarter in which the Bulldogs had the ball for almost 11
minutes.
Belue felt that fatigue was a factor later in the game.
"They played a lot of night games and probably weren't
used to theheat," Belue commented. "I think it (fatigue) did
take a toll on them later on in the third quarter until it
probably made a difference in the game."
Weaver made no excuses after the game. "That has
nothing to do with it," he said. "We run hard every day. The
heat was no factor. It iust so haDoens thev nlaved better than
us."
