Construction on an addition to the
Business Administration Building, which is

expecieu IU cosi niuiiuii, snouiu uegin
Nov. 1 according to James F. Kane, dean of
the College of Business Administration.
The structure will be built on the existing
parking lot behind the B.A. building and,
once completed, will be a mirror image of
its counterpart.
"About $8.3 million of it (the allotted $9.3
million) is coming from state funds in the
way of bonds, while the remaining $1 million
is being privately funded," Kane said.
"We have already sent out all the bid
invitations, and hopefully, we will have
collected all of them by Sept. 18.
"IF ALL GOES well, we should complete
construction in eighteen months," he said.
The new facility will include an underground
parking network, which will
result in an additional 200 parking spaces.
Also contained in Kane's report on the
construction are his justifications for the
Droiect.
According to his report, "Increased
enrollment has resulted in 100 percent
utilization of classrooms from eight in the
morning until eight at night." It also states
that 45 B.A. classes are not
currently held in the B.A. building due to
lack of classroom space.
ANOTHER REASON for the construction
of the facility is lack of office space as well
as space for additional support services

from the computer service and the library.
The new building will provide, an additional
180,000 square feet of space, according to
Kane.
Also stated as reasons for the project are
the rapid expansion of the Small Business
Development Center and the B.A. school's
Research Division.
A TENTATIVE breakdown of the new 8floor
building is:
The first and second floors are to be
devoted to library services.
The middle four floors are to serve as
additional classroom space to accommodate
business classes that cannot be
held in the B.A. building.
The seventh floor will enable the
Research Division to expand out of overcrowded
quarters and will also house the
typing lab, which is presently sharing space
wuii me computer ceruer. oy uoing irns, me
computer center will be able to expand into
the space vacated by the typing lab.
Kane also said the University Placement
Center, currently located on the Horseshoe,
will be moving into the new facility.
Reaction to the project has generally been
favorable. Students will be free of overcrowded
classrooms, and staff members
will not have to spend any time traveling
around campus and thus can devote more
time to their students.
However, not all reactions on the project
have been favorable. Faculty members are
complaining that during the year and a half
project, parking spaces will be limited.
