Was it a bird? No. Was it a
plane? No. Was it Super
man? Well, sort of. Actually
it was Christopher Reeve,
star of Superman and
Superman II. Reeve was in
Columbia from Sept. 2-4 to
tape introductions and
promos for a
children's/family film
series.
Looking more like a mildmannered
reporter than a
man of steel in his khaki
pants, loafers and dress
shirt, Reeve answered
questions at a brief press
conference Friday at the
South Carolina Educational
Television station.
"Having played Superman
pickcd up the pace of my
career by ten years," he said
in response to a question
regarding his possible fear
of being typecast into one
role for the rest of his acting
days. "It's the best thing
that ever happened to me.
Otherwise, I'd still be
struggling on Broadway like
so many of my friends are
still rioint? "
IN ANSWER to the
inevitable question, "Will
there be a Superman JJJ?"
Reeve said if the producers
can come up with a good idea

the series could be ready by
October of 1982.
" Supertnan III would actually

Reeve said his next film
will be Death Trap, a picture
in the mood of Murder On the
Orient Express, in which he
stars with, among others,
Michael Caine. He will also
begin work soon on a film
called Monsieneur. in which
he portrays a priest.
The brown-haired, blueeyed
actor also talked about
his love of flying (airplanestyle).
A licensed pilot, he
recently made an attempt at
breaking the world altitude
record. He was unsuccessful,
but plans another
attempt soon, possibly on his
next vacation.

said. " That would bore me
to death; I like to combine
my vacations with projects,
like the altitude record."
When asked about his
motivation for working on
the film series for television
(13 one-hour programs including
documentaries,
adventure, mysteries, folk
legends and myths to be coproduced
by Janus Films,
inc. and S.C. ETV), Reeve
said, 1 here is so much junk
on television that anything
you can do to change that
pattern is very satisfying."
He added that he feels no
special responsibility to the
children who have watched
him as Superman except
that he would like them to

askkd IF he had enjoyed

the best for Superman.
