It may be just a drop in the bucket, but
commuting students beleaguered by the
lack of parking at USC soon will be getting
some relief.
Road construction now taking place on
South Circle and Bull Street will give
students 37 more parking spaces, according
to David Rinker, systems vice president for
facilities and planning.
Construction becan this summer hut has
been delayed by bad weather. Rinker said
construction should be finished sometime in
September.
Changes at South Circle, between South
Building and Sims Dormitory, will add 12
spaces. These will not be meter-regulated
spaces, and anyone with a USC parking
sticker on his vehicle will be able to park
there. Construction here began in early
August.

another 21 spaces. Rinker said these spaces
will have meters, but the Parking Committee
has not yet decided what the time
limit on the meters will be.
Four extra spaces will be made on
another section of Bull Street by changing
parallel parking spaces into angle spaces.
A third change is taking place on Bull
Street, according to Rinker. Bull Street, now
one-way on campus, will be made two-way
above the intersection of South Circle and
Thomson Student Health Center parking lot.
Rinker said, " This will give a better
arrangement of traffic and will hopefully
eliminate dangerous U-turns."
The two lowest levels of the new parking
garage at Blossom and Sumter streets will
provide 135 spaces for purchase by students,
Rinker said. The top level will provide
meter-regulated parking.
In addition, 46 spaces will be added to a
parking lot on Blossom Street.
According to Rinker, the admissions
office restricted parking of incoming
freshmen and asked them not to bring a car
unless absolutely necessary.
