If Bobby Kish phones a hotel desk to find out what town he's
in or catches himself humming "On the Road Again" it's
very understandable. The former USC pitching ace has been
shuffled around more than a bottle of wine in a back alley
lately during his initial weeks in baseball's professional
ranks. But he's enioving the ride.
"So far it's been pretty neat," said Kish, who gave up his
senior year of eligibility at Carolina to join the St. Louis
uarcunais' organization. "I naven't really had a chance to get
my feet on the ground for long, but I'm enjoying it."
After signing with the Cardinals, Kish was sent to the St.
Petersburg, Fla. Class A farm team. Last week he was
shipped tothe Erie (Pa.) Cardinals of the Rookie League.
The right-handed reliever talked of his travels Monday

"Playing pro ball is a little different than playing at USC,"
he explained. "You definitely get bounced around more.
"The main reason I was sent up here (Erie) from St
Petersburg was so I would get more work."
Kish played in seven games for the Florida team, suffering
one loss against no wins and one save. He allowed 19 hits, 15
runs and 10 walks in his 14.2 innings pitched for an 8.59
earned run average. The 6-0, 180-pounder has not yet played

The decision to turn professional after his junior season
was no simple task, Kish said.
"Going pro and leaving Carolina was a very tough thing to
do," he said. "It was by far the hardest decision that I've
ever made. I postponed my decision three times. But after I
talked to Coach Raines, we decided that going pro was the
best thing for me to do."

Kish's Carolina career concluded with a fantastic finish.
The Boyertown, Pa. native came on strong during the final
stretch of the 1981 season, earning two saves in the NCAA
regionals and one College World Series save.
He blossomed as a bullpen ace in the 1980 season, as Kish
finished with eight saves, the NCAA's third highest mark for
that season. Kish completed the season with a 4-2 record and
1.77 ERA through 56 innings.
Kish called the College World Series a high point in his
career.
"It was the greatest," he said. "It is something I will
always remember and nothing will ever take that away."
Kish said the caliber of play in the Class A league was
slightly superior to college competition.
"A lot of recent college players are playing in the league
but they are the better of the collegiate players so it's a little
tougher" he said.
