be opening here in the near
future.
It's the story of four
middle-class slobs (James
Brolin, Cleavon Little, Bruce
Davison, and Chick Vennera)
who parachute into
Columbia to steal a fortune
from a villianous drugsmuggler
(James Coburn).
The entire operation is to be
completed in 72 hours, but
the four men don't count on a
. number of guards, booby
traps, and insane jungle

The movie turns a bit too
serious toward the end, but
the opening hour has more
a than enough "In-Laws"-type
humor to satisfy even the
mosb?ynical viewers. "High
T Risk" is also one of the first
actions films this year in
which we feel as if we're
watching characters and not
just straw figures being set
up only to be knocked back
down.
- People who prefer
character studies to action
films would do well to see
"Atlantic City" when it
' arrives in town. Directed by
Louis Malle (the man who
gave us "Pretty Baby"),
\ from a script by John Gnare,
its the sensitive portrayal of
an elderly mobster (Burt
Lancaster) and his
relationships with an aging
moll <Kate Reid) ..and a
saucy young temptress
(Susan Sara'ndon) who
yearns for the good life ? a
job as a card dealer in an
Atlantic City casino.

Movies
THE FILM is lovingly
directed, beautifully
photographed and impeccably
acted, three
qualities one seldom finds in
one movie.
Speaking of "Pretty
Baby," Brooke Shields is
back again, this time in
"Endless<Love." Based on
the nauseatingly saccharine
novel by Scott Spencer, and
directed by the overly
sentimental Franco Zeffirelli,
it's the one movie I
dreaded seeing more than
any other this summer.
Surprisingly, Zefflrelli has
stripped Spencer's novel of
90 percent of its cloying
sweetness and has actually
succeeded in making the
story ot a 17-year-old boy's
undying love for a 15-yearojd
girl watchable. That
Shields is more sultry than
ever in it certainly doesn't
hurt. Nor does the fact that
Martin Hewitt, her
paramour, seems capable of
acting.
Finally, and best of all,is
Richard Marquand's film
version of Ken Follett's best
selling "fcye of the Needle."
A sizzling combination of spy
thriller and love story, it
ranks as one of the three best
movies of the year, along
with 4'Thief" and "Raiders."
DONALD Sutherland and
Kate Neligan head the cast
and neither has given a
better performance.
Nelligan's portrayal actually
rivals that of Sally
Fields in "Norma Rae," and
I can Dav no higher rnm
pliment than that.
