All this and much,
much more takes place in
the movie's first half.
The viewer never doubts
that Jones will win in the
end, but at the same time,
he's always worried that he
just might not be right.
LIKEWISE, the viewer
knows there's a dragon to be
slain in "Dragonslayer,"

Sir Raiph Richardson is
Ulrich, an aging sorcerer
whose help in killing the
dragon is sought by a group
of villagers led by Valerian
(Caitlin Clarke), a young
woman who poses as a man
in order to avoid the lottery
wherein the dragon's viet:

urns arc* cnosen.
Peter MacNichol is Galen,
the sorcerer's apprentice,
who falls in love with
Valerian and who wants to
slay the dragon in order to
protect her, once her
transvestism is revealed.
"Dragonslayer" plays
much better than it sminHs
anu me acting ib ifiipf?SSiv ,
especially that of Richardson.
But it's the dragon who
is unquestionably the star of
the show.
THE BEAST of the title is
no ordinary fire-breathing
lizard. It swims, flies,
devours virgins, burns entire
ritips and pv*?n mourns th*?
deaths of its young.
And for
the first time in movie
history, we have a scaly
monster that doesn't look
like he just lumbered in off
the set of the last Godzilla
movie, with rubber cement
still dripping from the places
where his wings join his
body.
