Bids for the NCAA
baseball playoffs will be
handed out May 11 and May
18, and Carolina Head
Baseball Coach June Raines
feels his team has a good
shot at making the playoffs
for the fifth time in seven
years.
"We've got 38 wins and
five ballgames to play. I like
our chances," Raines said
after the Gamecocks
dumped Wingate Monday
night R-2 at Sarge Frye Field
to raise their record to 38-11.
"This was a big win for us
tonight." Haines said.
"Wingate's a pretty good
ballclub. Every game is big
for us. I feel good about our
chances of getting a bid. If
we win forty, I don't see how
they can keep us out of it.
"WE PUT in a super bid 1
think, and probably one of
the better ones that can be
offered throughout the
country. We would love to
host the tournament, but I'm
sure there are 10 or 15 other
clubs that would love to host
it also."
Originally bids were
scheduled to go out to some
teams this past Monday, but
according to Raines, the

The Gamecocks used the
long ball in their win over
Wingate as USC hit four
home runs to hand Wingate
their 15th loss in 42 games.

the top of the third inning
with a solo homer to give the
Gamecocks a 1-0 advantage.

Two innings later Chris
Boyle and Jamey Thaw
slammed back-to-back home
runs to boost Carolina to a 3Olead.
Wingate cut USC's lead by
a run in the fifth inning when
they scored one run on a

fly off starting pitcher Don
Gordon.

four or five pitches. The
pitcher refused to waste a
pitch on him and he made a
mistake and Jamey took him
