Tony Rambo of the USC track team
continued his winning ways with a victory in
the 400-meter intermediate hurdles at the
Carolina Relays in Chapel Hill, N.C., this
nasi weekend
Ram bo, who won the 400 meter-run and
was named the MVP of the Carolina Invitational
Meet at USC, turned in a meet
record time of 50.2 seconds to qualify for the
NCAA track championships in Baton
Rougue, La., scheduled for early June.
Ram bo will be joined by teammate Gus
Kirkland, who won the 110-meter hurdles at
Chapel Hill in a meet record time of 13 7
seconds that also qualifies him for a trip to
the NCAA's.
The Gamecocks' Ron Yarab was a double
winner on Saturday, taking firsts in both the
shot putt and discus events. Yarab outdistanced
his nearest opponent by almost
eight feet in the discus with a throw of 161-6
and threw the shot putt 57-11 1/2 to beat out
Joe Hannah of N.C. State by 21/2 inches.
Teammates Richard Labrador and Rusty
Shealy of South Carolina tied for second in
the pole vault at a height of 14-6. John
Madden of USC captured third place in the

Johnson Memorial Tennis Classic is Wed
nesday. The tourney, which is in its second
year, is open to all university students. A fee
of $3.00 and a can of balls is required. All
proceeds will be donated to the Terrell G.
Johnson Memorial Scholarship fund by the
sponsoring Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. The
tournament is slated to start April 20th with
the championship matches played April

THE SEMINOLES of Florida State, USC's
opponent in baseball this coming weekend,
took the nightcap of a double header from
the Memphis State Saturday to up their
record to 31-16. Mike Yastremski went
three-for-four with a double and a homer to
lead the Seminoles to an 8-4 win in the
second game. The Tigers took the opener 64.
