Inga Dennis, star of Town Theatre's
"Anne of the Thousand Days," insists that
despite her job as co-host of WIS-TV 10's PM
Magazine, 44Theatre is my first love."
"I always wanted to get into theater,"
Dennis said. "I really enjoy working with
PM Magazine, but if I had the chance to
work on Broadway, I'd jump at it."
Dennis's job with PM Magazine is one of
the causes of her "first case of stage fright,"
she said. "People are going to be saying, 4I
bet she only got the part (the lead, Anne
Boleyn) because she does PM Magazine,"
said Dennis. "I think people are going to be
skeptical, especially people in the theater."
ON THE OTHER hand, Dennis said she
thinks some people will expect an especially
good performance from her because of her
well-known job with PM Magazine.
"They 're going to expect more of me than
they would of Jane Doe. I hope I can give it
to them "
Most importantly, Dennis is "really
scared" because "Anne of the Thousand
Day* . which runs through Feb. 6, will be
her lust acting before a live audience since

the audience for so long that I don't worry
about making mistakes," Dennis said. "I'm
having to get the ad-lib part of my brain
working again."
Dennis does have theater experience,
having acted since the third grade. She
worked at Charleston's Dock Street Theatre
and got her decree in theater from Coker
College in Harisvilie, N.C. She has had roles
in "South P.'.cifk "Little Womer.,"
"Spoon River "Anthology" and directed
"Alice in Wonderland."
Her intention to work in theater changed,
however, when a friend suggested she
should trv television. That suceestion led
her to work in commercials and eventually
PM Magazine.

of acting, Dennis said, but not the same as
theater. Her first Columbia role has her
especially excited because she has been
"fascinated" with the part of Anne Boleyn
since working on a college production of
"Anne of the Thousand Days." "I've always
wanted to play her," Dennis said.
Dennis, who has been in Columbia for six
months, said she went to about five
auditions and call backs for "Anne." "I was
lucky enough to get a lead," Dennis said. "I
was so excited when I got it. I couldn't
believe it."
Dennis has no pretentions about having
the lead role, however. "I'm not anything in
a play without all the characters around
me," Dennis said. "Just because I'm the
lead doesn't mean I can carry the play."
"My forte is comedy," Dennis said.

because you got all the laughs." The drama
of "Anne," however, is "more demanding
than comedy because it's more taxing on
your emotions. You feel drained after a
performance."
DENNIS SAID her WIS co-workers have
been supportive of her work with Town
Theatre. "They're all coming to see me the
last night so they can throw tomatoes at
me," Dennis said. Her PM Magazine
producer let her off at 7 p.m. every night for
rehearsals.
Now that she's begun her Columbia stage

career, she plans to act "as often as
possible. I'm very happy with Columbia
theater."
Most of all, Dennis wants to be a good
Anne Boleyn. "I've been thinking Anne all
day," said Dennis, who researched history
to get a better feeling for the role.
She is concerned about actually "being"
Anne. Dennis said in the last rehearsals, she
felt herself take the role deeper than
presentation, to where she felt herself
become Anne. ,
"I hope I can get her again tonight,"
Dennis said. "I hope she doesn't desert me.
Because if I can do it..."
