Wooden bookdrops in the
Russell House Campus
Bookstore will be removed
"in the near future "because
of continuing textbook
thefts, according to Rick
James, USC Campus Police
officer.
Coin-operated lockers will
remain in the bookstore, and
James says he hopes more
can be installed.
Many books have been
stolen because they are
accessible in the open
bookdrops. James said.
THE NUMBER of book
thefts reported has increased
dramatically
because of increased student
awareness, he said

students aware of theft
problems, James said.
"Things are being stolen
because of the fact that
students are not properly
securing their items," he
said. He suggested students
not take books into the
bookstore. If taking books or
personal items into the
bookstore is unavoidable,
students should use the coinoperated
lockers, James
said.
STUDENTS should report
thefts immediately to
Campus Police, James said.
"It's reasonable to assume
that many thefts go
unreported because students
don't know who to report
them to," he said.
Most items stolen from the
bookdrop are never
recovered. James said.

women who claim the right
to their own bodies, I would
say that I agree with them.
But I don't feel that an unborn
child is part of that
woman's body. It (the child)
is a completely separate
human being that has just as
much right to life as its
mother," she said.
Bernie Corbett, a USC
Students for Life member
and co-chairman of the
demonstration, said the
organization doesn't have an
official opinion on issues
such as birth control, the
death penalty or the draft
because of members' differing
opinions.
"There is one issue that we
all have in common which is
abortion," he said.
COHBETT said the
organization has 200
members "about equally
divided between males and
females." The group holds
several educational lectures
and demonstrations
throughout the year, he
said.
