Daniel Dreisbach became
the first Rhodes scholar at
USC in 50 years when he was
presented the highly coveted
award Dec. 20 in
Atlanta.
"Receiving the honor has
definitely changed my life,"
Dreisbach said. "I was
unprepared for the attention
that came with winning. It
has taken me some time to
adjust to the media
coverage.
"I was shocked to get it,"
he said. "I felt I had given it
my best shot and hoped for
the best."

finalists.
DREISBACH SAID a
judge told him world leaders
are searching for experts in
foreign policy. He said the
judge considered him very
familiar with foreign affairs
? especially Third World
policies.
"All the candidates were
extremely qualified in the
competition," Dreisbach
said. "It wasn't my ~
academic record that won it;
the times had a lot to do with
it."

Dreisbach said he has
applied to three colleges in
the Oxford systemand plans
fo study modern art.

Dreisbach's hobbies. He was
born in Nigeria, West Africa,
and has been to Africa
several times. "I've spent
about a total of ten years
there," he said. Dreisbach
said he hopes to have a paper
he wrote on African art
published this year.
Dreisbach said he plans to
graduate this spring from
USC-Spartanburg with a
