About 130 runners began
their 1980 USC Homecoming
Weekend last Saturday October
1 8, with the 2nd Annual
USC Pumpkin Run. By having
this year's run as part of the
Homecoming Festivities, and
following the Co-Recreational
Snorts thfimfl of "Do It Fnr tho
I Fun of It!." this annual event is
fast becoming an established
part of Carolina tradition.
Beginning at 10:00 a.m. at
the USC P.E. Center, everyone
was finished in time to shower
and head downtown for the
Homecoming Parade. In
keeping with this year's festive
Homecoming atmosphere,
each registered runner received
a brinht 19HO Hnmopnminn.

Two Sundays ago on October
19, the Go For Goal CoRec
Soccer team followed the

idefeated the fiesty Strikers 5-2
in the exciting finals of the
1 980 Co-Rec Soccer League.
Relying on the fancy footwork
of their leading scorer,
Wattie Langston, Go For Goal
had to come back from a 2-0
deficit to score four straight
goals (five points) for their
comeback victory. Roger Rohr,
Pat Layden, and Nancy Levy
(female goal equals 2 points)
plso scored goals as Go For

balanced scoring attack in the

The Run followed a 2 mile
and a 4.2 mile course through
the shady Shandon area. The
runners in each distance were
divided into four divisions:
Student (male, female), and
Faculty/Staff (male, female).
Senior Marketing major, Tod
Goussios, crossed the finsh
line first in the 2 mile run with a
record winning time of 10:53.
Although he usually runs in
longer, more competitive runs,
Goussios really enjoyed this
run because it was "friendly,
low-key, and fun." He also
thought the run was organized

superb winning effort in
capturing the coveted crown
for the experienced Go For
Goal team. Allison felt they had
good team play, and "was glad
we didn't choke because this
was the first time we had been
behind. The Strikers had some
tough players, and they really

The Strikers were led by
Teruaki Nozawa, who was said
by the officials to be the most
talented player in the league,
and by a crow of very gifted
female players. Nancy Nitardy,
Sonya Smith, and Thumper
Saunders drew "ohs" from the
small crowd watching as they
held their own against the
guys. The Striker's captain,
Mike Buddin kept the girls on
offense, because he felt the

"We feel we had the best girls
in the league, and until we met
Go For Goal, they had handled
any guys who had covered
them."

their respective categories in
the 2 mile run were John
Englekirk (Fac/Staff/Male,
13:58-record), Althea Glenn
(Student/Female, 16:08), and

Other runners receiving
pumpkins in the 2 mile run
were David Fantozzi (11:39),
Ashley Pezzner (11:50), Bob
Carey (12:01), Glenda Jo
McLean (16:13), Kari Terry
(16:14), Donna Miolla
(16:26), Peggy Clark (23:20),
and Mylla Markland (46:30).
Finishing first in the 4.2 mile
run was Psychology graduate
student Kevin Williams, with a
finishing time of 22:46.

for the playoffs this year by
winning 60 percent of their
regular season games. Besides
the Strikers who were 5-0, and
Go For Goal who were 4-0,
Math, Kappa Sigma, the HemiAsstails,
and the Additions
were also gunning for the
championship.
Beginning the playoff
competiton the week before
the finals, Kappa Sigma
downed the Math Team 4-2,
with Ken Wagner and Tommy
Kuhn sinking the goals for
Kappa Sigma. Next Go For Foal
met the Hemi-Assetails in a
rematch of last year's finals.

Rohr having scoring honors.
Continuing on, Kappa Sigma
next met the Strikers, and took
a 5 3 licking from the female
Strikers. In the other semi-final
match, Go For Goal gathered
another shut out with a 4 0
win over the young Additions,
to earn their spot in the finals.

The Carolina Ski Club will
hold it's first organizational
meeting of the 1980-81
season tonight. October 29,
1 980. The meeting will be at
7:00 p.m. in room 1 1 0 of the
Solomon Blatt Physical
Education Center.
Club membership is open to
all students, faculty and staff
of the University of South
Carolina. All persons who have
a desire to learn to ski or to
improve their present skiing
ability are urged to come and
investigate the club. Dick
Ferriter, long-time Faculty
Advisor to the club statos
"You do not have to be a skier
to join the club, but you can
learn to ski by becoming a
member."
Tonight's meeting will be to
inform past members and
prospective new members of
what is planned for the 80-81
season. I he primary announcement
will be plans for
the annual Christmas holiday
break ski trips. Two one-week
trips will be offered again this
year thru the French-Swiss Ski
College of Boone, North
Carolina.
The Learn to Ski trip is for
persons who want to learn
how to ski, and for those skiers
who want to improve their
skiing through a week long
series of lessons tailored to
their ability level. The Learn to
Ski trip will run from January 4
9, 1981 and includes five (5)
days of skiing with unlimited
instruction, all equipment,
slope and lift fees, five (5)
nights lodging in Boone, North
Carolina, plus the manual "Improve
Your Skiing At
Home." Cost of the trip is
$125.00.
The trip for intermediate and
advance skiers will be January
4 8, 1981, skiing at both
Sugar and Beech Mountains, in
North Carolina. The trip includes
four (4) days of skiing,
all equipment, slope and lift
fees, four (4) nights lodging in
