SUNDAY, OCT.! - A stereo was stolen from a Preston
dorm room. Money was stolen from a non-student s car
narked in a physical education center lot. Roommates in a
Marion Street apartment awoke to discover that a thief
had entered the apartment through a bathroom window
and had stolen their purses.
A student reported that her car was stolen by a couple

back to their Woodland Terrace apartment for drinks. A
battery was stolen from a car parked in the lot at 400
Sumter St.
MONDAY. OCT. Ill ? Roommates reported receiving
obscene telephone calls at their Baker dorm room. A
: wheel was removed from a car parked in a coliseum lot.
A watch was stolen from an unlocked Capstone dorm
room. A staff member reported a pushcart missing from
Maxcy dorm. A banner was taken from the front of
Longstreet Theater.
A camera, a lens and a Dair of binocular* awn
from an unlocked Bates West room. A staff member's
purse was stolen from a room in the Coliseum.
| A student's wallet was stolen from the peer advising
room in the Russell House. A calculator and other items
were stolen from a staff member's desk at 1728 College St.
A student reported that his motorcycle was damaged '
while the vehicle was parked in front of Cliff Apartments. 1
TUESDAY, OCT. 14 ? Cassette tapes, a tape box and a
speaker were stolen from a car parked in the Blossom 1
Street Garage. A battery was removed from another car 1
in the garage. *

Man arrested for theft
A non-student was arrested Thursday night for the theft of
a student's class ring last semester.
Jeffrey G. Johnson, address unkown, fled South Carolina in
May when he learned that he was wanted for s'.* -ling Karen
Kalstad's ring from her Sims dorm room April 26.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 15 ? Vandals snapped the lrunks
of two trees. A telephone was taken from the lobby of Sims
dorm.
Electrical equipment was stolen from a staff member's
car parked in the lot at 1400 Wheat St. A man was arrested
for breaking into a car at the same lot.
THURSDAY, OCT. 1(5 ? A man was arrested in the

had caught him with a bag of marijuana in his possession.
A rest bar was taken from a student's motorcycle at
LeConte College.
A trash can fire on the first floor of Harper College was
extinguished with little damage. A false fire alarm was
reported in Tenement 35.
FRIDAY, OCT. 17 ? A drunken student was caught
taking roses from a garden near Lieber College. A staff
member reported a tote bag stolen from her office in
Wardlaw College.
Two drawings were stolen from the Hunting Hall
Gallery in Sloan College. A pushcart and a box of props
were taken from a van parked near the stadium during
"Cockfest."
The rear window of a student's car was smashed while
the vehicle was parked near the Commissary. A student's
locked bicycle was stolen from a rack at the business
administration building. A false fire alarm was reported
in Preston derm.
SATURDAY, OCT. 18 ? A student's briefcase was
siuien iroin a nussen Mouse rest room. A stalt member
reported the lock pried from the souvenir concession at
;he stadium, but what was taken hasn't been determined.
A student's bicycle was stolen from a rack at the
Phomas Cooper Library. A false fire alarm was reported
in Preston dorm. A student caught a non-student
damaging his car at Cliff Apartments. t

4 USC students
in auto accident

Four USC, students were involved in the Oct. 11 traffic
accident that killed USC sophomore Karen Collier.
Clarence Flethcer Carter of Mt. Pleasant was driving the

St. Matthews and hit a tree. Kirt Darby, Joan Darby (no
relation), and Collier were also in the car.
All were taken to Orangeburg Regional Hospital. Collier, a
19-year-old transfer student from Converse College in
Spartanburg, was pronounced dead at 7:45 a.m. in the
hospital's emergency room
Carter suffered a broken jaw and leg, and Kirt Darby had a
broken neck and a cut on his head. They were transferred by
helicopter to a Charleston hospital.
Joan Darby was later released from the Orangeburg
hospital.
According to Orangeburg Coroner A. Will Stroman, the
S.C. Highway Patrol received a call about the accident at
4:55 a.m.
