three exciting sets of con- p
temporary jazz music.
Mainland, a Columiba- i

formed contemporary jazz p
as well as traditional jazz.
"We don't deny our roots," f
said leader and pianist a
Patrick Boland. Their music ?
ranged from be bop to latintinged
jazz. t
Mainland maintained a f
high level of energy j
throughout the show. One of f
the best numbers of the night c
was "Moon Dance," a Van c
Morrison tune. The song a

While Mainland plays
songs by such artists as Ryo
Kawasaki, Jeff Lober Fusion
and Pat Martino, they also
perform original material.
Because of the diversified
backgrounds of the members,
they are all able to take
part in creating the original i
material, according to
Boland.
The show was sponsored
