Mangum said he has received additional support in the
undertaking from the Intra-Fraternity Council and Thornwell
Dormitory. "The IFC has donated their time and money
in an effort to make this thing work," Mangum explained.
"Thornwell Dormitory has also become involved in the cardwriting
and we hope the other dorms will follow suit."
Mangum also indicated that he has obtained pledges of
support from other universities. "I've contacted friends at
North Carolina, Indiana, and Southern Cal and they have all
agreed to send cards to ABC requesting television coverage
for the Gamecocks," Mangum said.
USC HEAD FOOTBALL coach Jim Carlen has repeatedly
expressed a concern over the Gamecocks' lack of television
coverage. He said the one thing lacking in George Rogers'
quest for the Heisman is adequate TV exposure.
The last aoDearance for the Gamecocks nn Aftf was in
1977, when the network regionally televisd the USC-Clemson
game. South Carolina has never appeared on national
television in football. Presently, USC is ranked 14th in the
UPI poll and 15th in AP's rankings.
Any student wishing to offer their help in the campaign
may contact Mangum at 771-5423. Postcards may also be
mailed directly to ABC-TV. The person and address to send

Americas, New York, New York 10019.
A decision to nationally telecast the USC-Georgia match-up
will probably tye made no later than Oct. 27, so according to
Mangum, "time is running out."
