For a number of years, the USC Student Media j
Department published an art and literary magazine, |
"The Crucible." Last year, the magazine was changed ;
to a feature magazine, including general-interest
articles as well as art and literature.
This year1 the magazine will have essentially the ^
1 same format, but the name has been changed to reflect 1
its new direction.
The magazine will be distributed free to USC I

Campus crime victims recovering
Two recent victims of attacks at USC are reported to
be recovering from their injuries.
Steven Coleman, a 31-year-old non-student who was J
| shot in the abdomen at a Woodland Terrace apartment
Sept. 20, is listed in stable condition at Richland
Memorial Hospital. No date has been set for his
i release.
Richard Wogon, a USC student who was assaulted I
with a metal pipe by another male student last Wed- 1
nesday night, has returned to campus in good condition.
Gamecock wins awards ]
The Gamecock was named the best college
newspaper in South Carolina by the South Carolina r
Collegiate Press Association Saturday.
The association presented the Gamecock with seven
of 12 awards. Robert Ariail won for best editorial b
cartoon; Stephen Riddell, editor, best news story; r
Mark Platte, news editor, best news analysis; Stephen
Riddell and Carl Babcock, best front page layout; Mike
Chibbaro, sports editor, best sports story; David f
Baker, film critic, best review; and the Aug. 27 ?
Gamecock for best issue.

The University Map Depository is on the first floor of the
auilding. The James F. Byrnes Center word-processing
facility and the satellite installation of the university's
Computer Services Division are on the second floor.
The center's directorate, the International Studies
Association, the Leadership of South Carolina office and the
Office of Research are on the third floor. The Earth Sciences
ind Resources Institute occupies the fourth floor. The
graduate school offices are on the fifth floor.
The university plans to bring a series of internationally
tnown speakers to USC to dedicate the building. It was hoped
hat Secretary of State Edmund Muskie would dedicate the
Duilding sometime in Ortnhpr hut with mmmHnn
n the Mideast, Muskie will probably not attend.
