Sports Harper complet Haq By Steve Riddell George Rogers gained 193 yards on 26 carries Saturday night against N.C. State and didn t even play in the fourth quarter, but quarterback Garry Harper stole the show with his passing. Harper completed 12 of 17 passes for 150 yards in the 30-10 victory. On three occasions he hit receivers for big gains when faced with third down and long yardage. "Our passing game worked well for us," Harper said. "We felt that we were going to have to pass against them to open up our running game." Harper was forced to throw early in the game. After USC got the opening kick-off, State held Johnnie Wright to one yard on first down and then threw Rogers for a five yard loss. Faced with a third and 14 situation, Harper calmly dropped back in the pocket and fired a strike to wide receiver Horace Smith for 35 yards. The Gamecocks then mixed up the pass with the run well and moved in for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
