(Photo by B MA A i UUIUI I , By Leroy Williams Staff Writer USC's NAACP chapter was officially chartered by its national headquarters at its first meeting of the semester Wednesday. William Gibson, state NAACP president, presented the organization its charter. To get the charter, the group iiau iv/ pi COCIIl hO S>1?J,1U? IUI tTS of paid members to the national office, said President Kenneth Allen. Allen said the chapter became a licensed campus organization last spring. But it wasn't easy to get the NAACP charter. "\VF HAI) TO prove that we weren't a duplication of AFRO," Allen said. The chapter also faced funding problems. Allen said the organization was allocated money last spring, but the senate Finance Committee later denied the group funding because the NAACP is politically active.
