USC to meet nat
By Richard Meyers
Asst. Sports Editor
Carolina's soccer team will face their biggest challenge
of the year when they face Southern Illinois-Edwardsville
in Edwardsville this afternoon in the first round of the
Cougar Classic. SIU-Edwardsville defeated Clemson last
year to win the national championship.
Saturday, the Gamecocks will play either Indiana or
Portland, depending on the outcome of today's contest.
USC now owns a 3-0-1 mark after playing to a 2-2 tie with
the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Tuesday.

Gamecock coach Mark Berson was disappointed with the i
tie, saying Coastal Carolina "played up to their maximum p
potential while we didn't play well in the first half. We 0
played better in the second half to come from behind." ^
