In an effort to get more USC-Clemson football game
tickets for the schools' booster clubs, a Gamecock Club <
member is seeking court action to arrange a new system of
ticket distribution. j
June Yarborough, a USC alumnus and law school graduate <
from Florence, advertised for support in the Sept. 7 editions i
of the Greenville News, the Florence Morning News, the
Charleston News and Courier, the State and the Columbia 1
Record. J
"Apparently, the Gamecock Club and IPTAY (the Clemson
booster club) totally disregard years of loyalty and support, i
and only money talks," the advertisement read. "If you have '
given $100 or more for at least 10 years and were denied USCClemson
tickets for 1980, contact the undersigned if in- <
terested in having a court set a fair plan of ticket distribution i
preventing discrimination." I

instead of 15,000. i
Yarborough said he has received excellent response from i
nembers of both clubs. "I have been contacted by people
irom every section of the state and from out of state," he 1
said. "Right now I'm getting my squad together." J
Yarborough wouldn't say when legal action might be
taken. <
"What we propose to do is ask the court to abolish IPTAY t
and Gamecock Clubs since the university and Clemson l
belong to and are supported by the people and their tax "
money," Yarboroughsaid in a letter.
"Wc will propose, and I make no secret of it, that the
tickets to the games be distributed by lottery or by standing
in line as the poor students do.
"Since 1936, I have missed five Carolina-Clemson games
due to three years in the war, the year I got married and the
assassination of President Kennedv in 1963." he said.
He said he had talked to several people in USC's athletic
department about the problem, but "Jim Carlen wants to
blame it on Ed Pitts, and Ed Pitts wants to blame it on Jim
Carlen."
Pitts is the Gamecock Club's director.
Carlen, USC athletic director and head football coach, said
Thursday, "I'm responsible for the 3,000 less tickets. 15,000 is
too many. I want to go to 10,000. "
Student tickets are not affected by the cut.
THE GAMECOCK CLUB now gets 8.525 tickets to the eame
at Clemson. and the remaining 3,475 are shared by the
faculty, staff, administration, students, band and football
players.

The application specifies that full scholarship donors, those

Roundhouse Club members pay $250 a year and get two
:ickets "as long as available." Century Club members pay
?100 annually and get two tickets "if available."
The application also reads, "There will be enough tickets
available to take care of approximately 25 percent of our
Century Club members."
Ed Pitts said, "Based on past experience I woiild have
expected most Century Club members to be able to get ,
tickets, but with the increased demand and fewer tickets, :hat
wasn't the case."
Joe Turner, IPTAY director, said that since the Gator Bowl
n 1977, priority lists for away-game tickets are prepared
nore than a year in advance.
"The IPTAY board of directors develops them, and we are
in the process of determining priorities for next year's game
n Columbia," Turner said.
The IPTAY system considers cumulative donations,
ength of membership and past ticket purchasing records in
jetting priorities.
Yarboroueh said he has eiven $100 to the fiamwork fllnh
ivery year for nearly 20 years. Because he can't get seats for
he Carolina-Clemson game through the club this year, he
nay miss the game for the sixth time in 44 years.
