Each semester many
students play an unhappy
game. It's called roommate
IUU1CIIC.
It's risky, but many

"Sometimes I really don't
know whether anybody at
Carolina is happy," said Jo
Foster, director of women's
housing at USC. "I have to
remind myself that the
students who come see me
are the unhappy ones with a
problem. The majority are
getting along fine."
Foster handles the
problems of unhappy
students by encouraging
them to change roommates
or by putting them on a
waiting list for another
room.

Foster said. "All of these
problems add up, and when a

Within two days of the
beginning of each semester
all hall advisers are required
to inform Residential Life
Services of students who are
not living in their assigned
rooms. This allows the
housing office to move
people on the waiting list into
vacant rooms quickly.
Once on the waiting list,
the student must wait for a
vacant room. Foster said
vacani rooms are rare ai
use.
"There are no vacancies
here," Foster said. "A
student needs to use intuitive
and imaginative skills to find
a new roommate if they are
unhappy."
